Sutton Farm in the Yorkshire Derwent Valley has had an Orchard for over 100 years and many of the old trees are still fruiting today. The Beal familly who farmed the land had a passion for fruit trees and they planted old varieties and took grafts and developed new strains. The flavours of these old fruits are so much better than more modern varieties. We took over the management of the Orchard in 2009 when the farm changed hands.} Exsisting trees included Damson,Greengage Victoria plum and some other old plums Apples included lord Suffield, King of Pippins,Discovery,Spartan and Bramley there are around 20 Pear trees of different strains and the hedgerows around the orchard are planted with different varieties of crab apples.Sloes, elderberries and Brambles are abundent in the hedges too. |
